Israeli prime minister apologizes to Turkish leader over flotilla raid

CNN) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu phoned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan on Friday to apologize for a 2010 Israeli commando raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla that killed several Turkish activists, the Israeli and Turkish governments confirmed.

Netanyahu made the call during an airport meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama before Obama departed Israel after his first visit to the Jewish state since taking office in 2009.

He apologized for what happened and acknowledged “operational mistakes,” and Erdogan accepted the apology for the raid on the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara flotilla ship, a vessel transporting aid to Gazans and intent on breaking an Israeli sea blockade.

Eight Turks and an American of Turkish origin were killed in the raid.

Obviously the apology should have been sooner…

Time - U.N. Says U.S. Drones Violate Pakistan’s Sovereignty

ISLAMABAD) — The head of a U.N. team investigating casualties from U.S. drone strikes has concluded that the attacks violate Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Ben Emmerson, the U.N. special rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, says the Pakistani government made clear to him it does not consent to the strikes.

He says Pakistani officials told him they have confirmed at least 400 civilian deaths by U.S. drones.

A Pakistani analyst helping Emmerson’s team, Imtiaz Gul, said Friday that he gave the U.N. investigator case studies of 25 strikes that allegedly killed civilians.

Emmerson’s statement was released on Thursday, following his three-day visit to Pakistan that ended Wednesday.

U.S. officials have disputed claims that drones have killed many civilians in Pakistan. They have also said Pakistan secretly consents to the strikes.

I’d have more sympathy toward Pakistan’s plight if they did a better job at minding their own borders… not to mention the fact that they were basically harboring Osama Bin Laden for all these years.

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It's Time For A National Conversation

Remember the Sequester?  The president is claiming its budget cuts will inconvenience travelers by squeezing essential services provided by the (opulently armed and stylishly uniformed) DHS.  Quality ammunition is not cheap.  (Of course, news reports that DHS is about to spend $50 million on new uniforms suggests a certain cavalier attitude toward government frugality.)

#DiewithMcCain

There has been no hiding of Tea Party anger with Sen. John McCain’s‘diss of Sen. Rand Paul’s filibuster over President Obama’s drone program, but one group has taken it to an extreme.

Young Americans for Liberty, a libertarian-Tea Party group, has hatched the hashtag #DiewithMcCain as a slap on the old, get-along ways of the GOP.

Here’s their release just received at Secrets:

#StandwithRand or #DiewithMcCain

So basically, advocating the death of a sitting Senator is acceptable to our “Young Libertarians” … So much for “due process”…

Shit Rand Paul Said …

The military operates under different rules of engagement than policemen. The rules are stricter on policemen. We do it because we’re not in a war here.

Ask someone who was “stop and frisked” … somehow their plight was ignored to talk about a fiction non-existent scenario

Shit Rand Paul Said IV

Maybe he’s not got enough people to go arrest you. He had policemen by him and he said he was going to lay off the policemen. Of course, he doesn’t have anything to do with the policemen so don’t worry about that. But he had the policemen by him and says he’s going to lay them off. So maybe he’s going to lay the policemen off because he’s going to kill you.

Wow.. he started getting punchy early..

When Obamacare legislation was written, it’s over 2,000 pages but it leaves up to the secretary of health I think 1,800 times the power to decide at a later date what the law or the rule would be. So since Obamacare of 2,000 pages has been written, there have been now 9,000 pages of regulations.

Topic of drones someohow turned into Obamacare…

Shit Rand Paul Said II

People who might be missing fingers on one hand, people who might have stains on their clothing, people who might have changed the color of their hair, people who like to pay in cash, people who own more than one gun, people who own weatherized ammunition, people who have seven days of food in their house. These are people that you should be afraid of and that you should report to your government. So says your government. Are they going to be on the drone strike list? I think we need to get an answer from the President.

These are the problems of privileged white people…

Shit Rand Paul Said… I

You know, when World War II ended, the currency was being destroyed in Germany in 1923, the paper money became so worthless that people wheeled it in wheelbarrows. They burned it for fuel. It became virtually worthless overnight. The beginning of September 1923, the paper, I think it was like 10, 15 marks for a loaf of bread. September 14, it was a thousand marks. September 30, it was 100,000 marks. October 15, it was a couple of million marks for a loaf of bread.

It was a chaotic situation. Out of that chaos, Hitler was elected, Democratically. They elected him out of this chaos. The point isn’t that anybody in our country is Hitler. I am not accusing anybody of being that evil. It is a misused anology

Rand Paul uses an analogy comparing Obama to Hitler.. then says it’s “misused”.

The Rand Paul Hypocrisy

I question the use of drones and despise how aspects of our military are slowly being turned into high stakes video game .. but I equally despise the theater of Rand Paul as he uses hyperbolic scenarios to paint a picture of peaceful citizens being attacked by Obama while he ENDORSES the elimination of laws that protect women, minorities and other vulnerable classes from virtually the same scenario…

The Jerk Store Called, They Ran Out of Bob Woodward

From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013

Bob:

I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall — but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here.

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)

I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously.

My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.

Gene

From Woodward to Sperling on Feb. 23, 2013

Gene: You do not ever have to apologize to me. You get wound up because you are making your points and you believe them. This is all part of a serious discussion. I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice. I am listening. I know you lived all this. My partial advantage is that I talked extensively with all involved. I am traveling and will try to reach you after 3 pm today. Best, Bob

Basically Bob Woodward is a prick…
