Netflix is taking further steps to kill their DVD service by separating disc and streaming into individual $7.99 price points. Starting September 1st if you want both streaming and a disc a month it’s going to cost you $15.98.

Just got this email. Fuck this.

Fuck that noise. I’ll make the switch, then give them until the end of 2011 to make everything available via streaming, otherwise I’m done.

I guess I’m pretty ambivalent about the price hike since I only had streaming to begin with and that price is not affected.

That said, I’m still pretty disappointed by the selection that is available to stream and the fact that movies and shows have a habit of disappearing without much notice.

Netflix is in a pretty shitty position with studios starting to throw their weight around now that they realize that online streaming can be a money maker.

Netflix put together a great cheap model for consumers. But now the studios are hip to this, and they are going to charge them billions. Remember.. services don’t last forever, but content providers do!
